Attendees at this year’s Capital Conference will enjoy a luscious luncheon on Wednesday, topped off with a presentation from the National League of Cities president. After having served as first vice president, Melodee Colbert-Kean was elected NLC president in 2015. She brings a lot of experience into this position. She served Joplin, MO as both a councilmember and mayor. In fact, she was Missouri’s first female African American mayor and the first African American mayor of Joplin. During her tenure as mayor, she played a vital role in helping her city rebuild after the 2011 tornado.
