As a design architect and Director of SmithGroup’s national urban design practice, Dan brings 24yrs of experience in adaptive reuse, planning and design for individual buildings, districts, and cities.  His work integrates creativity, analyses and community voice to realize benefits for cities across the globe.  From strategic plans, to open building design, and adaptive reuse planning for the Buffalo Central Terminal, Dan works to ensure enduring and impactful outcomes.  Prior to SmithGroup Dan was the director of Detroit Future City, a non-profit think-tank driving equitable implementation of the Detroit Strategic Framework Plan. Dan served as an advisory member for the U.S. State Department’s submission to the 2016 Venice Biennale, and as a contributor to German Marshall Fund research initiatives.  Dan was a chapter author for Post-Industrial Cities: Lessons from North America and Europe, (Carnegie Mellon and Routledge, UK, 2015), Why Detroit Matters, (Policy Press 2016), and Dichotomy 22 (UDM 2017).
