Every year the Michigan Municipal League’s Convention is closely followed by local and statewide media and this was especially the case during the 2014 Convention in Marquette from Oct. 15-17.

This media attention (see sample list of coverage below) is great for our communities and members because it generates a great deal of buzz for the key issues that matter to local officials across the state. It also can give much-warranted, positive attention for our communities and individual members who were bestowed with various honors and recognition during the Convention.

Hundreds of Michigan municipal officials descended on Marquette last week for a unique opportunity to explore this U.P. community, boost their knowledge on important civic issues, and enjoy the company of their peers. Attendees were kept busy with exciting presentations from the regional Community Excellence Award winners, inspiring keynote presentations from Jamie Bennett of ArtPlace America and Catherine Bracy of Code for America. Sessions on a wide variety of topics gave members ideas to try in their communities, and mobile workshops got them out on bikes and into mines. And for the exciting finale … Region 5’s Harbor Beach won the CEA cup! Read more in our numerous blog posts from Convention.

The League also posted hundreds of photos from Convention and these photos have generated thousands of views so far. Check them out here on the League’s flickr page: https://www.flickr.com/photos/michigancommunities/. We also posted dozens of press releases from Convention.
