The Michigan Municipal League’s Workers’ Compensation Fund program is receiving a lot of questions from our members about how workers’ compensation may apply to first responders. On March 30, the State of Michigan’s Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity issued updated emergency rules regarding this. Click here to view the updated emergency rules.

Here are the further details the League is providing our members on this:

“The State has issued revised emergency regulations on workers’ compensation coverage for first responders. The order, which will be in effect for six months, applies to first responders and health care workers, and presumes that a positive COVID-19 diagnosis is a work related injury.”

The Michigan Municipal League’s Unemployment Fund program is receiving a lot of questions from our members about expanded unemployment coverage. On March 16, 2020, Governor Whitmer issued an Executive Order to expand unemployment benefits eligibility and cost-sharing for benefit charges as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. Unemployment benefits are temporarily expanded through to April 14, 2020 for individuals who are unable to work due to exposure to COVID-19. Click here for the eligibility requirements and rules.
